Botox & Dysport Q & A

What are Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are neurotoxins derived from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. As cosmetic treatments, they are designed to minimize facial lines and wrinkles. When injected into a muscle, they temporarily block the nerve signals, preventing that muscle from contracting and creating wrinkles in your skin.

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Though Dysport is a smaller molecule than Botox, both are effective in reducing wrinkles and lines, both are safe, and both last for about four months. In fact, even practitioners have a hard time telling them apart during clinical trials.

What areas can Botox and Dysport treat?

Wrinkles appear as the result of regular facial movements: smiling, frowning, blinking, and chewing your food. That’s why even young people may notice fine lines or wrinkles.

Injectable wrinkle treatments like Botox and Dysport provide an effective way to:

  • Improve skin dimpling on your chin
  • Smooth crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead creases, and lip lines
  • Diminish neck bands
  • Soften a square jawline
  • Lift the corners of your mouth

If you feel like wrinkles are affecting your appearance and making you look sad or angry when you’re not, Botox or Dysport may be a good option for you. They’re effective for adults of any age.

What can I expect during a Botox or Dysport treatment?

When you receive an injectable wrinkle treatment at Aesthetic Assets, Pam or Stacey injects a small amount of Botox or Dysport into the muscles responsible for your wrinkles. The number of injections you receive depends on the specific muscles responsible for the wrinkles. Most sessions last 15 minutes or less, and the effects can last up to six months.

How often should I be treated with Botox or Dysport?

Some people choose to receive Botox or Dysport injections every four months or so, as soon as the muscles start contracting again. Others prefer to wait until the effects wear off completely, at about six months.

Keep in mind that if your facial muscles remain immobilized for long periods of time, they eventually atrophy and relax. As a result, subsequent treatments may have longer-lasting results than initial ones.
