As our bodies age, our skin begins to lose elasticity and volume due to a decrease of the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin and the breakdown of our naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. Aging is an unavoidable part of life, but you can fight the visible signs of aging and instantly restore a more youthful appearance with dermal fillers and volumizers! At Aesthetic Assets, we offer a variety of dermal fillers and volumizers that can be used by themselves or in combination to achieve a complete facial rejuvenation.

Did you know that we lose an average of ten percent of our facial volume per decade starting in our late teens? Of course, that number can vary based on many factors like overall health, stress, diet, exercise, sleep patterns, hormone levels, and weight. An extreme of the aging spectrum are starlets and supermodels like Christie Brinkley, who’s in her 60’s, but looks like she’s in her 30’s. The other extreme might be a homeless person who’s in his/her 30’s but looks to be 60 plus years old. Our biological appearance usually falls somewhere between these two extremes. And we all know some decades treat us much better than others.
So, where does the volume go? There is actually a multi-dimensional process that’s occurring, starting all the way down at the bone level, and includes facial fat as well as the structure of the skin itself. Let’s discuss all the ways our faces lose volume:
Facial Bone Loss
As we get older our bones reabsorb and degenerate. It happens to our whole skeleton and our height can actually shrink several inches in old age. This bone loss also occurs in the facial bones. If we compared the facial bones of someone in their teens to someone in their 70’s, we could identify several differences in the facial bone structure of the two individuals. If you’re over 40 chances are good that your dentist may have mentioned some degree of bone loss around your teeth. The same happens around the eye (sockets get larger, causing a sunken look) and the jawline (less definition).
Facial Fat Loss and Redistribution
When we lose weight, the first place we see it is in our face. Unfortunately, that’s not all! Our fat also tends to redistribute itself moving in a southward direction, creating hollows in the cheek pads and jowls. This redistribution is also the cause of deepening of folds around the nose and mouth.
Changes in our Skin
As we age, our bodies produce less collagen and elastin, which are two substances necessary for keeping skin tight, supple, and elastic. As our collagen breaks down, our skin begins to lose its battle with gravity and starts to thin, sag, and droop.
Replacing Facial Volume Deficits
Facial volume loss can create unflattering lines and wrinkles, hollows in the cheeks and temples, as well as jowls and a turkey neck. We also experience thinning lips and loss of facial definition and contour. Facial volume deficit is a problem for both men and women as we mature. It can cause an older, tired appearance that belies what we’re feeling on the inside. If you’re ready to replace some lost facial volume Aesthetic Assets, Face and Body Rejuvenation Center offers the full line of FDA-approved dermal fillers and volumizers to meet your specific needs.
