What is an IPL Photofacial?

By July 13, 2018April 19th, 2023No Comments

An IPL photofacial is a type of therapy that uses light pulses to produce therapeutic results. It is typically used to rejuvenate the skin to help you regain a more youthful appearance. If you want a refreshed look and are looking for a method that is milder than some other available treatments, consider looking into the IPL photofacial.

IPL, or intense pulsed light, is a treatment that uses concentrated pulses of light to help with things like dark spots on the skin or broken capillaries. It works in a similar fashion to laser therapy, but it is gentler.

The IPL photofacial is ideal for conditions such as uneven pigmentation, enlarged pores, facial redness and rosacea. The photofacial treatment provided at our office uses the Skintel® Melanin Reader™, which carefully monitors the level of melanin in the skin to ensure the safest and most personalized treatment with each and every session. For your comfort, the photofacial also comes with cooling technology.

An IPL photofacial can help eliminate unwanted dark spots, giving the skin a more even tone and texture. These spots form because too much exposure to the sun’s UV rays has caused the buildup of melanin in spots throughout the skin. It is melanin that gives the skin its pigment, and its levels will increase when the skin produces it as a protective measure against sun exposure.

With repeated UV exposure, melanin will begin to concentrate in small areas, leading to the dark spots that so many people experience. IPL photofacials help with dark spot removal by breaking up the concentrated melanin. When this happens, those spots will start to flake off. What comes next is smoother, younger-looking skin. While the exact number of treatments needed will depend on your personal goals and needs, most people get the best results after 3-5 treatments.

Thanks to the treatment’s integrated cooling technology, the IPL photofacial is very comfortable. Most people who want to improve the tone and texture of their skin will make good candidates for treatment, and we can provide you with more details on the advantages of the IPL photofacial during your consultation. You may find that a younger look is easier to achieve than you first thought.
